Students Quiz Gubernatorial Candidates at Rendell Center Forum

Philadelphia-area elementary school students who wanted to know how gubernatorial candidates would handle important issues like school safety got a chance to ask them at the Rendell Center Youth Gubernatorial Forum.

The forum, sponsored by the Rendell Center for Civics and Civic Engagement, which is based at the Annenberg Public Policy Center, brought together fourth- through sixth-grade students at the Philadelphia School District headquarters building on Oct. 10, 2018, to ask questions of Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf and Republican challenger Scott Wagner. Questions at the Youth Gubernatorial Forum, which were selected in advance from ones submitted by students across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, concerned school safety, bullying, school funding, standardized testing, and homelessness. The two candidates made separate appearances before the students, who were from Robert B. Pollack Elementary School, Anne Frank Elementary School, and Edwin M. Stanton Elementary School, all in Philadelphia, and Cynwyd Elementary School in Lower Merion.

The Rendell Center was co-founded by former Gov. Ed Rendell and Judge Marjorie Rendell of the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
