Chris Voegeli
Science of Science Communication

Dr. Chris Voegeli serves as a visiting scholar in the Science of Science Communication at the Annenberg Public Policy Center, where he will be writing a book that will critically analyze the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) efforts to combat health misinformation, ensuring that future public health initiatives are better prepared to handle similar challenges. Before this, Dr. Voegeli served as the Health Information Integrity Lead at the CDC in the Director’s Office of Communications. In this role, he was tasked with developing, implementing, and evaluating the CDC’s first strategic plan to address inaccurate health information. At the CDC, he also served as the Vaccine Confidence and Demand lead in the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, where he coordinated the CDC’s domestic portfolio of work to build the public’s confidence and demand for all vaccines. During the COVID-19 response, he led the team responsible for monitoring and mitigating the spread of vaccine misinformation. He has led several White House working groups, including the Building Trust and Designing for Health Behavior Uptake Working Group and COVID-19 Booster Vaccine Interagency Working Group. Dr. Voegeli serves as a subject matter expert on establishing government systems to monitor and mitigate health infodemics and misinformation and has advised CDC partners such as the World Health Organization, NATO, and governments around the world. Dr. Voegeli has an M.P.H., an M.A., and a Ph.D. in community psychology. He did his dissertation on the psychosocial factors related to distrust in government health information and the impact of trust on following public health recommendations.
